All of those who truly love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ long to be with Him, yearn for our destiny which is promised by His redemption of us. Surely there can be no greater joy ever than meeting Him face to face, being in His glorious presence, and us forever filled with overflowing praise and awe at His inimitable love for us and ours for Him.
Even so, our earthly walk, no matter how strewn with trials and tribulations, can and should be a daily walk of praise and joy unspeakable just in knowing Him now, and having the glorious task to do all that He has commanded us to do for Him as we wend our way along this life's path.
If you have never read "Heaven" by D. L. Moody written over 100 years ago in 1880, you are in for a spiritual treat. What a picture of truth and beauty for our eternal life with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ who came to ransom us so that we could experience for eternity all that God has planned for us.
As I read the Word and see the work that Jesus did while on this earth, and understand more each day how He lived here, and the things He did, I see that always His focus was totally in the here and now, practicing unconditional love for all He met in His daily walk. Even so should our own hearts and lives be always steadfastly about the work He gave us to do, just as He was always doing the work the Father gave Him to do.
This is perfectly and beautifully illustrated, plain enough for even the simplest of His sheep to understand, in John 4:1-42, in the story of His meeting the Samaritan woman at the well.
When Jesus arrived at the well after His long walk across the desert land, He was both hungry and thirsty. His disciples had gone to get food. By the time they arrived back with the food, Jesus was already fed and full. When the disciples encouraged Him to partake of the earthly food they had brought back with them, Jesus confounded them by saying, "I have food to eat that you don't know about." "My food," He continued, "Is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to finish His work."
By sharing the gift of Himself with the despised lady at the well, He Himself was spiritually fed. He knew the true hunger and thirst of the Samaritan lady, knew that she was expecting the Messiah, knew that she was able to receive the truth when He said softly and simply, "I that speak unto thee am He." He was filled with joy and completeness at doing the work the Father had sent Him to do, even to the point that earthly food and drink were unimportant in comparison.
In my own way, I have experienced this. No matter what is going on in my day, everything going awry with a difficult, technically challenging job, frustration, disappointment, etc., when I receive an e-mail or note in a guestbook in one of my web sites from someone who has been fed and watered on the words of truth about Jesus Christ that I have shared, I am full to overflowing. If hunger had been there, it is gone. Frustration is gone. Distraction is gone. I am full to absolute overflowing joy in the knowledge that a life has been touched by His Spirit, that His life-giving water has flowed into another person because of my obedience to always be about the work that He gave me to do.
Just as it was His food to do His Father's work, it is mine to do His. Each of these experiences is a step in my walk towards my heavenly home, and in a sense I am experiencing heaven here and now as a participant in His work and power. This is my greatest joy and it fills me like no earthly food can! These are my "heaven on earth" experiences as every day my time here on earth is less, and my nearness to heaven closer and closer as my appointed days flow through the hourglass of time grain by grain as with each step I climb toward my heavenly home.
I am fed and exhilarated most by reading people's testimonies. In these I not only get to witness again the power of Jesus Christ to redeem, but I also experience the wonder of seeing that some person who loves Him was busy doing the work that He gave to each of us which is to share the truth and power of Himself. Always in these wonderful testimonies, one of His faithful had their light shining brightly, not hidden under a bushel, not ashamed or too timid to proclaim Him, but praying mightily and being about His work. And, I know that their joy is greater than that of the redeemed and that they have experienced a little bit of heaven!
In the hope that others will be fed too with heavenly food, I share here some of the most wonderful and amazing testimonies I have gathered. My own is a most incredible story, and how blessed I am to have lived it! The others have blessed and encouraged me in special ways, and I know they will do the same for you! So, be fed - then go feed the lost, hungry, and thirsty souls that are all around you, and experience some heaven of your own as you walk that beautiful staircase towards eternal life. I have a friend who often says, "oh, that person will receive a crown in heaven for that!" I don't do His work with any thoughts about crowns, but for the inimitable joy and overwhelming awe of just doing the will of Him who saved me, so that I can finish the work He gave me to do before my time here is all gone.
